“I have five siblings. Me and my younger brother study now, my elder brother works in a shop and my father works in a cement factory. My sisters are not allowed to study and they stay at home.
What will you become, when you grow up? I will become an engineer.
Engineer, why don't a doctor? I like engineer more. I saw one engineer here. So I want to be like him.“
Over the past 2 months, approximately 50 children engaged in worst forms of child labor have been identified and approached in the area of Dhoke Hassue, Rawalpindi. These children were found picking garbage, working at the vegetable market, selling street food, and several girls working at people homes. Thanks to our donors from all around the world, we were able to mobilize them and encouraged them to join our non-formal education system, allowing them access to excellent transition/bridge programs, technical vocational training (for older children), health /hygiene knowledge, life skills and pyscho-social counselling. These children will eventually be mainstreamed into a formal education system according to their age to encourage withdrawal from their exploitative work places and prevent them from joining such work after their education as well.
ITA has adopted a non-formal education center which had been non-functional for over a year now. After enrollment and assessments we plan on make the appearance and resources better at the center for the children to have a more comfortable environment to learn in as the donations come in.
Students’ learning is different and effective in our center as we are implementing a professionally developed accelerated learning program called CPB (Chalo Parrho Barrho), in English translation (Lets’ Read and Grow). CPB has been especially designed for children of primary school going ages or out of school children who are unable to read properly and are not able to do basic arithmetic operations. This program is fully integrated with 4 evaluation assessments (Baseline, 1st term, 2nd term and Final term) to effectively monitor the progress of each child. So far, the baseline assessment has been completed and children have been assigned levels. Teacher training is complete and teachers have started teaching according to the provided lesson plans.
With your help, we are looking forward to opening more of these centers around Punjab and changing the lives of 500 such children, currently working in dire conditions! Thank you once again for donating!
