Reading books together at the mobile library
Reading books together at the mobile library

Here are some highlights of our work over the past 3 months:

Community Mobile Libraries

During the Christmas school holidays, 1,636 children accessed our community mobile libraries. Each week day, our mobile library vehicle visits a rural village and provides opportunities for children from the local community to access the library for the day. Children partcipated in shared story reading sessions and had the opportunity to either read books independently or have them read to them. These community mobile library sessions are facilitated by local community volunteers who coordinate logistics and support with reading activities.

Kalamu Teacher co-pilot

Teachers from 13 rural schools were trained on the Kalamu teacher co-pilot; a brilliant tool bringing Foundational Literacy and Numeracy lesson guides directly to teacher's phones. We are partnering with Angaza Elimu to roll out this exciting initative which will eable teachers to access structured lesson guides quickly and easily via their phones to improve student learning outcomes.

New School year, New Schools!

January is the beginning of the school year in Kenya, and we've been busy enrolling new schools onto our Schools Development Program!

Meet Morris and Grace, an Education Training Officer and Librarian at Pursue. No two days are ever the same, but each day is guided by one shared purpose: connecting schools and communities to quality education. Over the past month, they've been involved in mapping and recruiting new schools into our Schools Development Program. Their day begins early when it is cooler and they each travel into the community to engage school leaders, teachers, parents and local leaders; introducing the work of Pursue and learning about the educational needs of their schools.

Through conversations with community members and visits to potential schools, they explain how the Pursue Education Program supports a strong reading culture, improves learning outcomes, and creates safe, engaging spaces for children. The school engagement process is incredibly important. It's not just about enrolling schools; it's about building trust and meaningful partnerships that will support children's learning and their whole lives.

"I genuinely enjoy this work; meeting an interacting with new school leaders is both thrilling and highly fulfilling." Grace, Mobile Librarian.
