As COVID-19 continues to impact some of the most marginalized communities in South Africa, Afrika Tikkun is making great strides towards ensuring students have access to education, digital learning and a better future.
With the help of your donation, Afrika Tikkun has received digital tools that makes teaching and learning fun, interactive and future oriented. In this report, we share the impact of your gift and bring you update from our Uthando Center in Braampark, Johannesburg.
Afrika Tikkun’s Uthando Center currently has 80 tablets, 30 of which are used by the Early Childhood Development (ECD) program. ECD tablets are preloaded with age-appropriate activities such as nursery rhymes and phonetics which are rolled out during class time. These online activities also assist young students to develop English-speaking and Mathematics skills. Another feature on the tablets that our students absolutely love and appreciate is story time!
Furthermore, students enrolled in Afrika Tikkun’s Child and Youth Development (CYD) program uses tablets for homework support, online research and to access lectures on various topics. Most of these students do not have access to electricity, let alone internet and computer, and so at the center they can not only access online learning materials but also develop technological skills required for them to compete in this age of technology.
We are extremely grateful for your support in helping us increase access to digital tools for our students, particularly as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to dictate the need for new and alternative teaching and learning methods.
Thank you!
The Afrika Tikkun Team
