Educate and Empower girls

By Martha Givaudan | Director

"One School, One Future: Save the Dreams of Rural Girls in Mexico"

In rural areas of Mexico, millions of girls face a future limited by poverty, inequality, and lack of opportunity. Every day, hundreds of young girls drop out of school—not because they lack desire, but because they lack the support, resources, and tools to overcome deeply rooted barriers. But there is hope: educating and empowering girls can break the cycles of poverty and school dropout forever.

Why Are Girls Falling Behind?

In rural communities, girls face challenges that go far beyond the classroom:

  • Schools that are far away or inaccessible.
  • Cultural norms that prioritize household care over education.
  • Families living in poverty who see early marriage as an "economic solution."

According to UNICEF, 1 in 5 girls in Mexico gets married before the age of 18, and this rate is even higher in indigenous and rural communities. Without access to comprehensive education, many girls are forced to abandon their dreams, perpetuating generations of vulnerability.

But there is a powerful solution: life skills education.

Transforming Lives with Real Skills

The “Yo quiero, Yo puedo” (I want to, I can) program is changing lives by integrating practical life skills into the education of girls in rural areas. This approach goes beyond math and reading—it teaches girls how to think critically, make decisions, communicate confidently, and manage their finances.

What Do They Learn?

Financial literacy: How to save, plan, and start small businesses.
Negotiation and leadership: How to defend their rights, reject forced marriages, and participate in community decisions.
Reproductive health: How to understand their bodies, access medical care, and make informed choices.
Emotional resilience: How to face adversity with strength and hope.

These skills not only help girls stay in school, but also enable them to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and agents of change in their communities.

Together, We Can Change a Generation’s Destiny

Today, with your support, we can expand this impact. Every donation makes a difference:
Train teachers in transformative teaching methods.
Equip schools with educational materials adapted to rural contexts.
Support projects led by girls who are already building their futures.

With $20, you can fund a life skills kit for one girl for a semester.
With $100, you can train a teacher in essential life skills.
With $500, you can launch a community project led by girls.

Your Support Is More Than a Donation—It’s an Act of Justice

By investing in the education of rural girls, you’re not only preventing school dropout—you’re building a fairer, more equitable, and prosperous Mexico. These girls don’t just want to study—they want to change the world from where they stand.

Let their voices be heard. Let their future become possible.

Donate now and become part of the change that transforms lives—one girl at a time.

“I want to, I can” – Because every girl deserves a second chance.
