Material Support is given to the girl children to help in ensuring that theydo not drop out of school due to economic reasons. The support is given in the form of an educational kit comprising of two sets of uniforms, undergarments, shoes, socks, school bag, stationery and notebooks which is ceremonially handed over to every individual Nanhi Kali at a colourful function. The function is attended by the parents and the larger community and cuts across all barriers of caste, creed, age and gender. It also serves as a platform to sensitize the community on the importance of Girl Child Education. In addition, the material support reduces the hidden costs of educating girls and leads to parents being more favorably inclined towards their daughter’s education. In the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh, before the kit distribution ceremony, community meetings were held in each village to plan the program jointly with the villagers and various stakeholders. The kit distribution then ended with an oath taking ceremony wherein the parents and community pledged to send their girls to school regularly and work towards the empowerment of their girl children.
