Early childhood education breaks the cycle of poverty, strengthens families and communities, and sets kids up for happy, successful lives. With your help, Fundacion Sembrar will provide holistic health and educational development for over 200 children under 5 years old in Quito, Ecuador, while accompanying parents to reinforce positive habits and foster a safe and supportive environment at home.
The Pisuli and La Roldos neighborhoods of Quito have high rates of crime, poverty, and unemployment, making it difficult for children and families to flourish. These issues were all exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns. Children under the age of 5 experienced increased malnutrition, fell behind in school, and suffered family trauma like job loss, and domestic violence.
Sembrar offers dynamic educational activities and thoughtful accompaniment so children can develop skills, build healthy relationships, and discover the world and its possibilities. Good nutrition and healthy habits are essential for children to reach their full potential. That's why the balanced meal we offer to over 200 children every day is a core pillar of our program. The program integrates family life, so we also provide parent workshops and homes visits for supporting family development.
Early childhood education is known to improve communities and is essential for a happy, successful life. Children involved in our program display well developed social and cognitive skills compared to others their age. Parents have shown a positive transformation in parenting skills and relationships with their children, which significantly reduces domestic violence. 85% of our children have improved their nutrition and hygiene habits, and 100% have now access to health services.
