The Year of the Pencil initiative brought encouragement and opportunity to students across Sierra Leone. Through this effort, 65 students at Harvest Primary School each received a pencil pouch containing 10 pencils and a sharpener. The distribution brought excitement and joy to both students and teachers. Many of the children proudly displayed their new pencils, eager to begin using them in class.
For students in underserved communities, access to basic school materials can make a tremendous difference. A pencil may seem small, but for a child eager to learn, it represents the ability to complete assignments, follow along in lessons, practice writing skills, and fully engage in their education.
Teachers at Harvest Primary School expressed appreciation for the support, noting how important these supplies are in helping students stay prepared and motivated to learn. The distribution also served as a reminder to students that people around the world believe in their potential and care about their future.
As Develop Africa celebrates 20 years of impact, initiatives like the Year of the Pencil reflect the continued commitment to removing barriers to education and helping students succeed. Your generosity is helping provide more than school supplies—it is helping create confidence, opportunity, and hope.
Thank you for supporting students at Harvest Primary School and for helping empower the next generation through education.
With gratitude,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
