Implementation of Empower the Girl Child Education Program in Haveri District
A brief Report from September to November,-2018
- The VRDS has identified and finalised the target villages, hamlets and the urban slums of Ranebennur in Haveri district for the above project implementation. The process was done through the field visits, extensive discussion with the students, parents, school head masters, teachers and our staff. Further house visit were also made to access the socio-economic condition of the villages.
- The selection process village/hamlet/area was finalised and selected Girl child from BPL families of following places.

- We approached the concerned Schools and had discussion with School Head Masters/ and class Teachers. Through this process we understand the present problems, education standard of the children and family condition of the girl students. From school records we collected academic standards of the each student and discussed the critical problems for continuation of girl student education. Through this process we collected the list of 35 girl student from the different schools of the project area.
- After getting the list we went to verify the family conditions of the girl child. We assessed actual condition of the family, source of income to the family, support required for the girl child education.
- During the period organised one parents meeting at the project level. The open house discussion was held and interaction were held in the presence and active participation of children and parents and assessed the family issues, problems, social practices, poverty which are faced for continuation and quality education of the Girl student education.
- We also discussed and understand the present facilities provided by the State Government in order to achieve strengthen education program in the area. Apart from this what requirement is expected by the parents and children were also discussed in the meeting
- After the above discussion a team formed (consisting of Projector Supervisor, field staff and village volunteers), they went to each family and assessed the real situation. During the course real poor family were found and finalised eligible 25 Girl students as program beneficiary.
- Required Education materials were listed, which includes necessary items such as school bag, compass, pencil, water bottle, note book, dictionary, white sheet, colour pencil, pens, atlas, drawing sheet, pad, white dress, white shoes, socks etc were handed over.
- As per the planned, the visit has been done regularly to each of the individual family and extended follow-up support and created conducive atmosphere for school education program.
- We have identified new Teachers to teach Maths and Science subjects. We found that children required additional support to learn these subjects. The special tuition classes are required to learn on the difficult subjects.
- A special bridge course organised on every Sunday, subject expert teachers on English, Grammar, Science and mathematics were taught, and Student got more interest to increase their ability and in quality learning. The parents of the children are also got interest; they are sending their children to special classes regularly on every Sundays.
On 4th December, 2018, a workshop was conducted on girl child education and atrocities on the girl Children and women agriculture at government high school at Kunchur village in Hirekerur taluk of Haveri district. The program was conducted with the cooperation of the Krishi Vignyana Kendra Hanumanahtti, Ranebennur taluk. Mr. Baligar, the Project Director speaking on the occasion mentioned that, the law should not remain only in the books and it should be implemented strictly. He also said that, the child protection commission is doing very good job in identifying the absconding and trafficking children in the state. He also said that, the Vanasiri is working closely associating and helping the commission towards the betterments of the children.
Ms. Hasina Hediyala, from the Samajika Parivarthana Janandholana, Bangalore spoke on the occasion on the rights of the children in detail. Dr. Ashok, the head of the KVK, Hanumana hatty spoke on the environment and the development of the kitchen garden and he also said that, after the SSLC, there will be 2 years diploma coursed are available in the agricultural university. The local PDO from Kunchur grama panchayath and the retired veterinary Dr. Basavaraja Banakara, D. R. Jagatap, Hanumanthappa and Kusuma from Vanasiri organisations were present. Two girls were given prices for having stood first and second in the essay competition which was organised by us in consultation with the school authorities.
Besides the regular classes, we are also we inviting the resource person to conduct the classes on the personality development and life skill development. During November, 2018 the internal exams are also conducted by the teachers to assess the performance of the students.
