Dear Valuable Donors & Friends,
Greetings from RDOET (HAO India)!
With this letter, I am very happy to share with you some news and updates about the program you have been supporting. As you may be aware, by June 2010 ‘Educate 900 Children in Hyderabad slums’ was fully funded by Global Giving. And since then we have received support for it from your good self people like you. So many, many thanks for your valued generous support. Every one of us here is truly grateful to all your support and we hope to receive your continued assured help for this project in the years to come.
The target areas selected is to for project Educate 900 Children in Hyderabad slums situated in the midst and around Hyderabad. These people are mainly migrated from different districts of Andhra Pradesh as well other states of India in search of livelihood, they are living there for past 20 years.
Enclosed with this letter is a detailed report to share what we have been able to do. I would like to present a brief summary of the report for those who would like to refer the more detailed report at their leisure.
AT A GLANCE: 1. Target community selected for above project are from 10 identified slum areas in and around Hyderabad.
2. Surveyed and studied selected areas, gathered information on their pathetic living conditions income source, personal hygiene, sanitation, safe and clean drinking water source.
3. Identified neglected deserving 900 school dropout children for this program Based on their illiteracy living standards meagre and irregular income of parent’s and negligence attitude of local authorities.
4. Motivated and enlightened local leaders and provided awareness on present situation how to address the problem on personal hygiene clean sanitation and safe and clean drinking water and education for the children.
5. Formal education centres and residential literacy camps are organised for out of school children, thus improving educational status whilst simultaneously serving as demonstration sites that engender recognition of quality education at the community level.
6. Efforts have focussed on addressing the quality of education to strengthen the schooling to the deserving children.
7. A noteworthy change in Hyderabad urban slums are discussed that children’s educational issues are now given top priority and importance.
8. Working on building the capacity of children to learn better, and efforts to reduce absenteeism of children in the school and this, will continue in conjunction with communities.
THE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION The local community has participated actively to ensure quality education for their children in the areas where a large number of children were out of school. The parents pay a small nominal fee of Rupees 5 per month for their children attending the centre. It is a very good community participation to encourage children’s education and show fraternity. It is also very encouraging to that the parent and teacher meetings have also become quite frequent, helping to build a good relationship between the both.
EXPERIENCING QUALITY EDUCATION It is also very encouraging to observe that these programs have been able to provide an experience to the local communities of quality education and a guarantee to parents that their children are learning how to read and write such assurances are outcomes.
This program provides a platform for mutual learning for the teacher, students and their parents. The presence of these centres also motivates the community to think about the issue of quality education and its role in ensuring, its availability to all children and bringing up awareness on improving good heath hygiene and access to clean sanitation. The program will continue to reach out to thousands of children and parents every year. We hope to connect you with many of these individuals every year with your continuing support to this program.
Thank you from all of us at RDOET. We hope to keep building on this foundation and continue to transform lives and expand the dialogue around the issue of quality education. We are very fortunate to have you with us on this important journey.
With warm regards,
Pulukuri Abraham
