By Dr.(Mrs). P. Usha Abraham | CEO & Project Leader

Report on HEALTH AWARENESS PROGRAM WORLD TB DAY – 24th MARCH 2011

On the Move Against Tuberculosis…… Transfiguring the fight towards elimination. In one of the identified slum area. (Bowenpally, Secunderabad, Ranga Reddy, Dist.)

Summary: The project will enable 900 children to go to school. In these areas there is no electricity, no clean water & without proper shelter. Will provide for school needs, solar lamp & safe & clean water, and awareness on communicable diseases and prophylactic measures.

About the identified Area: The people living here are in pathetic situation, without any basic amenities like clean drinking water proper sanitation, no electricity and live in huts. Main occupation of these people is joy riding on camels for children and elders with a minimum of Rs.5/- only which does meet their day to day neccesities. Some of the women folk go on cycle cart with the idol of their deity. They live very close to roadside with unhygiene condition, and do not have permanent occupuation like job and their children may easily be prone to dreadful skin diseases and many communicable diseases. HAO India in Action on the move against tuberculosis on WORLD TB DAY 24TH MARCH 2011: HAO India organized Health Awareness Program, on World TB World TB – March 24th 2011 related to hygiene, sanitation, cleanliness. As per the reports, TB kills someone approximately every 20 seconds — nearly 4,700 people every day, or 1.7 million in 2009 alone, according to the latest estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO). TB is second only to HIV as the leading infectious killer of adults worldwide. It is among the three greatest causes of death of women aged 15-44 and is the leading infectious cause of death among people with HIV/AIDS. Although a cure for tuberculosis (TB) has existed for more than half a century, TB is one of three leading causes of deaths worldwide due to infectious diseases. TB kills about 1.6 million people each year, while HIV/AIDS claims more than 2 million lives each year; malaria kills about 1 million people each year. We ventured into our identified area, where children are in unhygienic conditions, without proper sanitation, grimy as parents are garbage pickers and children are easily prone to skin diseases and other communicable diseases. These people are migrated from Maharashtra and Gujarat in search of livelihood and living beside the roadside for the last 10 years. Our program mainly focussed on hygienic conditions giving more focus on the dreadful killer disease Tuberculosis by method of: • Charts • Pamphlets • By Puppet show Based on the hygiene supplied soaps to all the children, elders for nearly about 100 people. The children jumped with joy and immediately were on implementing it by taking bath. These people are facing water scarcity and only once in a week they take bath. And even for drinking purpose, it is too hard to get a pot of drinking water. The highlight of the Puppet show was that it attracted all sections of people. We distributed fruits to elderly people and biscuits to the children. These people are leading a very pathetic way of life. When we approach, interacted, and enlightened about the health awareness they responded well and were so happy and very much grateful and thankful to HAO India and Global Giving for their kind concern showed towards them. Needs are many, we are just praying God for their basic essentials needs to be met and request for the generous donors to come forward and extend their valuable support for these down-trodden people. As we have started to serve in this area, we take the challenge and seek your contribution towards this project in uplifting these people for the Kingdom of God, and great Blessings to the Donors. Dr. (Mrs). P. Usha Abraham CEO, RDOET (HAO India). 3 John: 1-2 “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be n health, just as your soul prospers".
