Faith was twelve when both of her parents died within months of each other. The small house that had once been full of laughter became silent, and the chores and bills fell to her alone. With no one to pay her school fees, Faith made the painful decision to leave class and find casual work selling vegetables and washing clothes to keep a roof over her head. Her dream of finishing school felt like a distant memory, each day was spent balancing hunger, exhaustion, and the gnawing fear that opportunity had passed her by.
Everything changed when a community outreach worker told her about GARDEN OF HOPE FOUNDATION’S scholarship program. For the first time since her parents’ deaths, Faith felt a cautious hope swell inside her. The scholarship covered school fees, provided a uniform and supplies, and just as importantly paired her with a mentor who checked in on her wellbeing and helped design a plan for catching up academically. Returning to the classroom was hard at first, she felt behind, shy, and anxious about fitting in. But with patient teachers, peer support, and the steady encouragement of her mentor, Faith began to reclaim her confidence.
Now, Faith studies with determination and a new sense of purpose. Faith will be graduating from High later this year.
