In underserved communities in Northern Nigeria, access to quality education is still a daily struggle for many children, girls like Affordia. Poverty, poor learning infrastructure, lack of books, and limited educational support continue to threaten school attendance, literacy development, and future opportunities for children in rural communities.
In Keeping It Real Foundation, we believe that every child deserves access to learning opportunities irrespective of their background or location.
Since 2017, with support from our recurring donors and the GlobalGiving community, KIR Foundation has worked consistently with Christ Disciple Missions (CDM) Primary Schools, Adamawa State, helping children in underserved communities in Mubi Hills gain access to books, learning materials, desks, and safe spaces for learning.
When KIR Foundation first visited communities like Lainde, Lila, Gilmari, and Thuba, many of the children learnt in makeshift classrooms with limited furniture and little or no access to storybooks. Schools lacked bookshelves, desks, reading spaces, and essential learning materials.
Children like Thomas, Tobias, Affordia, Peace, Zion, Michael, Selina, Dorcas, and Zachariah had the willingness to learn but lacked the resources needed to thrive academically.
However, through your support, this story has gradually changed.
Since 2017, KIR Foundation has:
One of the most significant moments came during the World Children’s Day 2025 intervention themed “My Day, My Rights,” where KIR Foundation supported 403 pupils across Lila, Lainde, Thuba, and Gilmari with books and essential writing materials.
Indeed, for many children like Affordia, it was the first time they had received complete learning materials for school.
This intervention increased participation, excitement, and confidence among the pupils.
Comfort, the Coordinator of the CDM Primary Schools, expressed her appreciation saying:
“We sincerely thank Keeping It Real Foundation and the GlobalGiving donors for the support you have given us. Your intervention will enhance education in this locality, help the children grow academically, and enable them to better understand their place in society.”
Access to books and learning materials is not a luxury for children in underserved communities. It is a pathway to literacy, dignity, confidence, and opportunity.
Your investments have helped transform classrooms into learning spaces where children can read, learn, and dream beyond their circumstances.
Despite this progress, significant needs remain.
CDM Primary School Lainde still requires flooring and windows. CDM Primary School Gilmari needs more desks and bookshelves. The schools continue to require textbooks, storybooks, writing materials, and additional classroom furniture to support the growing number of pupils.
Therefore, as we continue this journey in 2026, we invite you to help us reach more children with books, literacy support, and safe learning spaces.
Our goal is not only to help children stay in school. Our goal is to help them build brighter futures through learning.
We deeply appreciate our recurring donors whose consistent support continues to change lives across Northern Nigeria. However, we still need $2,217 to go
