School started on June 1st for the academic year 2017-18. Ashwini Charitable Trust(ACT) sponsors the education of about 150 children from the urban slums of the Ulsoor area in Bangalore.

This is Ram Kumar(name changed) ,a student of ACT studying 1st year degree( Commerce) staying in Kalahalli Government quarters. He is growing in every aspect of life through this five year journey with ACT. He used to be shy and had trouble mingling with others. After joining ACT he has got the courage and confidence to communicate with people. His father is a ward boy and mother a maid but he is keen to change their lives by studying hard and getting a good job. He wants to learn new skills every day and apply whatever he has learnt. He has learnt to organize events, use his computer skills to make AV’s, update the data base ,mentor smaller children, make paper bags, he is a black belt in karate and  his confidence is growing day by day all thanks to his mentors and volunteers in ACT.

  • ACT provides each child with all the school essentials like Note and Text books, Uniforms, Stationery, School Bags, Sweat shirts, Black and Canvas shoes, black and white socks in the new academic year
  • We assessed all the new children for this academic year. We went through Pre-Term Assessment for English Reading Skill, in order to allot the children to various levels of our English Skills Program.
  • Our volunteer based teaching programs which include corporate, individual and group volunteers has also started. We provide after-school academic teaching, English and Math Skill classes. The children have a different session of life skill classes every month.
  • Birthdays of the children were celebrated each month. The children cut a huge 8 kg cake and they were gifted a 1 kg cake to take home and celebrate with their families
  • ACT organized a dental camp to make sure our children’s teeth are protected and free from cavities. We also provided the children with treatments to prevent further problems.
  • 60 Students from a reputed Institute of Management Studies volunteered their time for 10 days and worked hard to help take inventory, clean up our office space and surroundings, taught and interacted with our children, did some fundraising andspoke to people about the Trust and its work.
