1. Background

Shruthi [name changed] joined ACT in 2014 as a 5th standard student. Over the past 11 years, she consistently received educational support from ACT, covering her journey from primary school through to her degree.

Raised in a financially constrained household by a single mother working as a housemaid, Shruthi [name changed] faced significant personal and economic challenges. Despite these, she demonstrated resilience, determination, and focus on her educational goals.

2. Key Milestones

  • 2014: Enrolled in ACT support program as a 5th standard student.
  • 2014–2023: Continued education with ACT’s financial and mentoring support.
  • 2023: Successfully completed her degree.
  • 2024: Secured employment as a Junior Accountant at Tusker Trunk.
  • First Salary Contribution: Sponsored lunch for ACT children, symbolizing her gratitude and commitment to giving back.
  • Educational Success: Transitioned from a disadvantaged background to achieving a professional qualification and securing stable employment.
  • Economic Impact: First-generation graduate with the potential to uplift her family’s financial situation.
  • Community Engagement: Demonstrated social responsibility by contributing back to ACT from her first salary.
  • Personal Growth: Embodied values of courage, perseverance, and gratitude, serving as a role model for other ACT students.

3. Outcomes. Learnings for ACT

  1. Long-term Support Yields Results: Continuous engagement from school through degree completion ensures sustainable outcomes.
  2. Resilience Amplified by Support: Even students from highly constrained backgrounds can thrive with consistent encouragement and resources.
  3. Cycle of Giving Back: Alumni who succeed often develop a sense of gratitude, leading to contributions that inspire current beneficiaries.
  4. Role Model Effect: Sharing such success stories motivates current students and validates the effectiveness of ACT’s interventions.
  5. Holistic Approach Matters: Beyond financial aid, mentorship and emotional encouragement are equally critical for student success.

5. Recommendations

  • Strengthen Alumni Engagement: Create platforms where graduates like Shruthi [name changed] can mentor and inspire current students.
  • Measure Long-Term Impact: Track career progress of alumni to assess and showcase program effectiveness.
  • Promote Stories of Success: Document and publish similar journeys to attract donors and encourage peer learning.
  • Expand Support Systems: Introduce structured mentorship programs alongside financial support for more holistic development.

Her Words of Gratitude: "Thank you for being such a big part of my life. Your donation for my education has been a major turning point for me and my family, and it gave me the opportunity to pursue my goals and build a better future for my family. As I begin this next chapter, I’ll always be grateful for the chance you gave.."
 — Shruthi [name changed]
