E.A.S.E. foundation goes the extra mile

As always, our grateful thanks to GlobalGiving for giving us the support we need to continue the important work we do. We have had a busy few months since our last report in February. In April we celebrated Autism day with a concert and a donation of dry rations to the families. June 3rd was our annual trip to the beach much loved by all. June 7th a workshop to the doctors and other professionals of the MOH (Medical Officers of Health) Most recently we held a medical camp. Widening our outreach, we opened it not only to our students and their families but to the larger community as well. A group of 46 medical personnel including three doctors served a group of 221 individuals from 9 am to 1 pm on the 29th of September 2025. Well aware that mothers neglected their own health we included women’s health investigations such as mammograms in our medical camp. Twenty-one ladies who discovered they had potentially serious conditions that needed further testing were given referrals to obtain them. They and their families are grateful that these conditions were discovered early enough thanks to the medical camp. The families have requested that an annual medical camp becomes one of the services provided by the E.A.S.E. Foundation.

Intense thanks to GlobalGiving for their support of the E.A.S.E. Foundation. You enable us to provide many services to people with disabilities and their families. Our core program provides education for students with disabilities, especially those with autism. Children with disabilities are often neglected and offered a dull task-oriented education. We stimulate their brains with age-appropriate academics. In fact, we are preparing one student for the O Levels. For non-speaking students we introduce an alternative way of communication. Using this we have nurtured essayists and poets. To nurture creativity, we have arts and crafts too. our beautiful home decor items are sold at the annual International Christmas Charity Bazaar.
We celebrated World Autism day on the 2nd of April with a concert. The students and staff practiced for weeks. They put on a concert enjoyed by families and friends.A special feature was a dance item by the mothers.
We also do fun things like an annual trip to the beach. We invite a parent along for each student and go to one of Sri Lanka’s famous beaches. A group of young volunteers come along to provide respite for parents and more fun for kids. We also bring along snacks. Lunch is at a good hotel.
We help families with a bi-annual distribution of dry essential foods. We also encourage self-employment by giving a few families sewing machines and training on them to enable the mothers to take in sewing orders.
GlobalGiving enables us to do all this by channeling funds from donors and doing some fundraising for us. Without your help we would not be able to have the intense impact we make on these vulnerable and marginalized families.

presuming competence, communication for all

Our heartfelt thanks go to GlobalGiving for partnering with E.A.S.E. Foundation, we provide a variety of free services to people with disabilities and their families. We are proud to say that we have been providing these much-needed services since 2007. GlobalGiving has provided a large part of the funding that makes this possible.
Based on the principles of presuming competence and communication for all, our program especially the educational services are extremely successful.our recently acquired "Talking Cactus" is a great motivator for the students just begining to develop speech. Dramatic improvements happen to all our students. Our parent education initiative plays a major role in this. While their child is in class the parents chat with our co-founder/co-presidents. This brain storming, problem solving and information sharing is very useful. Chandima being a person with autism and Anoja being his mother are able to provide answers or at least useful suggestions. Informed, knowledgeable parents are vital for all students, we are glad we can provide this service to our student’s families. Our students remarkable progress is dependent in part to this important service we provide.
Again, our sincere thanks to GlobalGiving for supporting us. The fact that you provide a user-friendly portal for our donors is much appreciated. Live long and prosper.
