Tanu (not her real name), a 15 years old girl was found dead along with the four members of the family in the tragic fire incident that shocked the capital city of Bhubaneswar recently. It came to our notice that she was working as a maid-servant (child labour) in the house of the industrialist Chaganpal (not his real name). After her shocking demise the organization took the case for intervention and put the matter before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Khordha. By the order of the CWC, Ruchika Childline investigated the matter and submitted its report. It was learnt that Tanu’s family is very poor and her three siblings are not going to school. Tanu was supporting the family by her meager salary. The CWC, Khorda issued an order to the District Education Officer and two siblings of Tanu i.e. Mantu (not his real name) and Raju (not his real name) were enrolled in the Station Bazar UGUP School. The youngest child, Nandini (not her real name) was enrolled in the nearest Anganwadi (preschool centre). The Program Manager, Ruchika also arranged for a sponsor “Happy Bliss Foundation” and it helped all three children’s expenses to school. The Foundation has also promised to support these children for next five years.
