Project Report | Apr 19, 2026
Educational Support for Climate-Affected Children

By Mohammad Nurul Huda | Project Coordinator

1. Introduction

This report provides an update on the Educational Support for Climate-Affected Children project for the period January–April 2026. The project aims to support 27 children whose education has been disrupted by climate change–related impacts such as floods, droughts, and storms. During this period, the project continued to face significant funding challenges; however, efforts were made to sustain support through internal resources.

2. Project Goal and Objectives

The project’s goal remains to reduce educational disruption among climate-affected children and strengthen their resilience. Key objectives include:

  • Providing tuition fee support
  • Supplying essential school materials
  • Offering transportation assistance
  • Delivering tutoring and counseling services

3. Progress Overview (January – April 2026) 3.1 Funding Status

From the beginning of the project, a total of $40 has been received from donors, which remains insufficient to implement the project at the intended scale. Due to this funding gap, most planned activities could not be fully operationalized.

Despite this limitation, Green Fund Initiative took the initiative to continue supporting beneficiaries using its own organizational resources.

3.2 Activities Implemented

During this reporting period:

  • At least 15 climate-affected children were supported through GFI’s own funds
  • Support included essential educational assistance such as:
    • School supplies
    • Basic financial support to continue schooling

Beneficiaries were selected based on vulnerability and urgency, in coordination with local contacts and schools.

4. Impact

  • 15 children were able to continue their education with reduced financial stress
  • Improved school participation and motivation were observed among supported students
  • The intervention helped sustain trust among communities and beneficiaries despite funding shortages

5. Challenges Faced

  • Severe funding constraints, with only $40 received from donors since project inception
  • Inability to extend support to all 27 identified children
  • Planned activities such as tuition support, transportation assistance, and counseling services remain largely unimplemented
  • Increasing demand for assistance due to ongoing climate-related vulnerabilities

6. Stakeholder Engagement

During this period, the project team continued to:

  • Maintain communication with local stakeholders and schools
  • Monitor the condition and needs of supported children
  • Explore funding opportunities through outreach and proposal development

7. Next Steps

Subject to funding availability, the project aims to:

  • Extend support to all 27 identified children
  • Resume structured tuition assistance
  • Provide comprehensive school kits
  • Introduce tutoring and counseling services
  • Strengthen monitoring and reporting mechanisms

8. Appeal for Support

The needs of climate-affected children remain urgent. While internal funding allowed support for 15 children during this period, many others remain at risk of educational disruption. Increased donor support is essential to ensure continuity and scale of the project.

9. Conclusion

During January–April 2026, the Educational Support for Climate-Affected Children project demonstrated strong commitment despite critical funding shortages. With only $40 received from donors, the organization relied on its own resources to support at least 15 children. These efforts highlight both the urgency of the need and the dedication of the implementing team. Sustained financial support is crucial to expand the project and secure the educational future of climate-affected children in Bangladesh.
