Ganeshi is a 23 year old girl from the village of Karahal, Sheopur. She was part of Project Nanhi Kali in 2006, when she was in class IX and is currently pursuing her Masters and is also teaching in a girl’s hostel. Her family is extremely poor and supported by her mother, Mrs. Kala who is an Anganwadi Helper. Her father Mr. Babulal Prajapati is unemployed and Ganeshi is the youngest among five daughters and two sons.
In the year 2011, Ganeshi was married off to Brij Kishor from Mekhdi village, Sheopur. However, she has been living with her parents since 2014. Upon meeting with her family, her parents disclosed the excruciating details of Ganeshi’s married life. Brij Kishore turned out to be nothing like the person that her family thought he was. Their daughter’s life was highly insecure with him because of his violent nature which often put Ganeshi at the receiving end. He tortured her physically and mentally making her life a misery. As a result, she became very ill and unhappy. Her parents then decided to interfere and brought her back home, away from her husband. She has been with them ever since.
When asked about her future, her parents replied that they will take care of her for as long as they live, however, they are worried about her future after them. When the team representative suggested an option of second marriage, her parents responded that a decision such as that now completely rests upon Ganeshi. If she chooses to opt for a future to get married once again, her parents will completely support her decision and stand by her.
Ganeshi’s response to the suggestion of a second marriage was that she was not currently in a position to think about another marriage. Her current aim in life is to be able to financially support herself and not become a burden on her family. Ganeshi used to work as a Community Activist with Project Nanhi Kali; the team has once again asked her to rejoin the project so that she can contribute to the society by teaching other Nanhi Kalis.
