Brazil faces constant natural disaster risks, especially in the South, leaving vulnerable communities without safe access to education. The project advances Education in Emergencies, acting before, during, and after climate crises. It includes teacher training, learning materials, technology investment, and post-disaster opportunities so children, youth, adults, and older people can continue learning and rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
Recurring climate crises in Brazil, especially in the southern region, directly affect the continuity of education due to the lack of preparedness, structured response, and educational recovery in the face of climate-related disasters. Schools and communities, for the most part, are not sufficiently equipped to prevent impacts, maintain learning continuity during emergencies, or ensure the recovery of learning and opportunities after crises.
The project will act in a preventive and structural way, investing in training and educational materials before crises, ensuring educational continuity during emergencies through technological and instructional support and, in the post-disaster phase, promoting learning recovery and professional qualification. This systemic approach reduces educational disruption, mitigates inequalities, and strengthens communities' capacity to rebuild with autonomy and dignity.
The project not only responds to emergencies but strengthens education in the face of climate crises. Over two years, it will contribute to a culture of prevention, improved local governance, reduced educational losses, and the creation of qualification and employment opportunities. It is expected to directly serve 4,000 people and indirectly impact 12,000, strengthening resilience and promoting lasting social development.
