Dear GG members
Thank you for your ongoing interest and support. Though the earthquake shook the ground and reduced buildings to rubblle several months ago, the long term need is constant. Construction and clean up efforts began right away - but taking care of those injured both in hospitals that were damaged and those on the streets and in their homes - ours is a long range effort to replenish and restore.
Many of you may have traveled in Ecudaor and that is why you are motivated to give. Thank you for that inspirational thought and thank you more for your focused action. We need your support to keep the flow of of donated supplies going to Ecuador. The supplles are donated - but the shipments cost $1,000's of dollars - on averge $10K.
Each container is worth $750,000 in aid and more.
In our last report we mentioned that our partner Americares was sending $1 million in medicines. That shipment has arrived and has been distributed to several locations in the Guayaquil hospital system.
Our latest news is that we have received $5K from the Global Giving commnity that responded to the earthquake via the GG fund project. Many of the GG members are ready and willing to give as soon as they hear of a disaster - whereas non-profits like VIDA need to act quickly on the ground.
This $5K will help pay for half the shipment of medical equipment and supplies to Latin America - Ecuador, Peru and Chile are amongst our most active alliances in Latin America.
We are grateful to the members of this generous community.
Gracias
Patti Mangan
