VIDA and the people of Ecuador need your help. VIDA is partnered with the Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil, a 115-year old charity that runs 4 large hospitals as well as several clinics and nursing homes in this large port city providing mostly free medical service to over half a million of the poorest each year, to provide them with the large quantities of medical supplies and equipment that they desperately need. Our partner’s vast network makes them particularly effective in responding to the regions impacted by the quake.
The challenge the project is facing is raising enough funds to pay for the shipping cost and import inspection fee for the container. The cost to ship a container door to door is roughly $5,000. This is where the GlobalGiving Community can step in and help pay for some of these costs. A typical container carries $500,000 in aid, and includes items such as hospital beds, gurneys, exam tables, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and other ambulatory equipment as well as hundreds of boxes of valuable medical supplies . On an ongoing basis we drive around the Bay for scheduled equipment donations -so that when an event happens - such as this earthquake - we are fully prepared to respond in Latin America. VIDA does not receive any money from the beneficiaries. All supplies and equipment is given to people in need at no cost. Once again, we are asking for your help to help pay the shipping costs.
VIDA and our partners thank you for your past generosity and look forward to sending our next container to Ecuador. Thank you for helping us to achieve our goals.
