Like David, who was brought up in a children's home. David received a scholarship, graduated with the IB Diploma, and went on to study at the London School of Economics. Founded in 1994, with President Vaclav Havel as our Czech Patron, the English College in Prague wants to help more young people like David who without financial help would not be able to study at the ECP. Here is David receiving the British Ambassador in Prague's Young Person of the Year award.
The English College in Prague is a highly respected secondary school, founded in the wake of the Velvet Revolution, to provide an academic education in English to enable Czech young people to go on to study at the most prestigious universities around the world. Our Founder Patrons were Vaclav Havel and Charles, Prince of Wales. We are a not-for-profit school, registered as a charity in the UK, and we keep our fees as low as possible, but they are still out of reach for many Czech families.
Changing Young Lives will provide scholarships to enable more young Czechs to attend the English College in Prague and to achieve their full potential. This year, three of our students obtained the maximum 45 points in the International Baccalaureate - a score obtained by only 179 worldwide.
The project will enable more young Czechs to study at prestigious universities around the world. Our students regularly gain places at Oxford and Cambridge in the UK and at Ivy League universities in the U.S. As one ECP Scholarship Student, now an EU Diplomat, put it: "Not only did my education at the English College in Prague benefit me, it continues to benefit my country."
