Eco-Visual Conservation Education for Kenyan Youth

Sports met conservation on 27th March 2025, with the vibrant spirit of creativity and innovation that came alive at The Milimani Comprehensive School in Naivasha. The occasion was nothing short of a celebration, with students from nine local schools in Nakuru County participating in the first of its kind, the WRC Safari Rally 2025 – Revvvisha Art Competition. The event, a partnership between the TonyWild Foundation and KCB Bank, breathed new life into the profound belief that thoughtful collaborations can pave the way for meaningful and impactful change.

This year, the WRC Safari Rally held on 21st - 23rd February 2025 in Naivasha, not only offered a display of motorsports but also provided a valuable opportunity to advocate for environmental conservation through the Revvvisha Art Competition. This intersection of motorsports and conservation can play a significant role in promoting sustainability initiatives, making it an ideal platform for nurturing environmental awareness and education.

In a run-up to the WRC Safari Rally 2025, schools in Nakuru County, where the spectacular event is hosted, were invited to write essays on sustainability and build cars from scratch. The ingenuity and resourcefulness exhibited by these budding artists and innovators were nothing short of awe-inspiring. From cars integrated with circuit boards to those constructed using recyclable materials such as plastic bottles, cardboard, and plastic pipes. The essays expressed a depth of understanding about the concept of sustainability, effectively highlighting the students' knowledge and awareness of the pressing environmental issues facing our world. 

The TonyWild team was represented by Esther Ngei as MC, Victoria Wanjohi - Director and Storytelling Lead, Tobias Odhacha - Education Consultant, Beryl Muga - Storytelling Coordinator, and Clite Naiterra as the "Driver of the day."

We are also grateful to the host school, The Milimani Comprehensive School, the school principal, Mr. Martin, and the esteemed Chief Guest, Micheu 'Mich' Njiru, Director of Customer Excellence at KCB Bank Group, for their invaluable presence and words of wisdom. 

Also present were the WRC rally drivers and navigators, Caroline  Gatimu, Tinashe Gatimu, Evans Kavisi, and Absalom Aswani, who shared invaluable contributions and encouragement with the students.

The judges for both the essay and car modelling competition included Anyango Nicholas, John Githui, Victoria Wanjohi, Edwin Buluma, Micheu ‘Mich’ Njiru, Eddy Kimani, Beryl Muga, Absalom Aswani, and Joan Arwa, shared thoughtful evaluation had played a significant role in recognizing and celebrating the brilliance of the participating young artists and innovators.

The participating schools included The Milimani Comprehensive School, Freehold Comprehensive School, Naivasha Boys Boarding, Moi Comprehensive School, Lanet Comprehensive, Kinungi Comprehensive, Ngeya Primary School, Regina Pacis Elimu School, and Muslim Comprehensive School.

The Revvvisha Art Competition, organised by KCB Bank a week after the WRC Safari Rally 2025, can further emphasize the link between motorsports, conservation, and the creative arts. Encouraging young artists to express their appreciation for nature and conservation through their artwork can help reinforce the message of environmental responsibility and sustainability, promoting conservation efforts within the context of motorsports.
