*This project needs a delicate vital piece of equipment called a Transesophgeal echocardiogram probe. This probe is important in our pediatric cardiac surgery missions. *Each year approximately 1.3 million children are born with Congenital Heart malformations. According to the American Heart Association and Mayo Clinic that is one child born every three minutes with a heart defect. *Early treatment prevents further health problems and easier recovery. CarddioStart is working to help them.
*Access to heart surgery in low-resource settings is severely limited, with over 75% of the global population lacks adequate access to these essential health services, contributing to high mortality rates. *CHD is one of the 2 leading causes of birth defects globally that account for over half of all neonatal deaths due to birth defects. * (TEE) is essential during cardiac surgery as it provides real-time imaging, allowing for immediate assessment of cardiac structure and function.
*CardioStart works to bring Cardiac surgery and training programs to make cardiac surgery care available early and efficiently saving lives immediately and in the future. *CardioStart research has shown in their 2024 study that patients who had surgery had improved quality of life, symptom resolution and self-reporting of health reporting. *The availablity of a TEE probe to confirm successful surgery is vital to successful safe surgery.
*Current patients and future patients who receive surgery and recovery care by local teams will benefit from the training received during missions. With repeat visits the local teams become self-sufficient in providing early treatment saving time, money and morbidity. The TEE use and training is vital to a strong, safe program.
