Thatha Ithuba accompanies and supports students of the Imizamo Yethu Township (Hout Bay, South Africa) and enables them to take advantage of opportunities to improve their future, and to pass on their experience to future generations.
Eat Better South Africa hosted a session as part of a four day camp, with the focus on the importance of nutrition in ones overall wellbeing.
Students from various faculties, were treated to a sugar demonstration, which highlighted the amount of hidden sugars in popular and sometimes seemingly “healthy” foods and snacks. This was followed by a nutritional presentation which outlined the impact of the over consumption of sugars and refined carbohydrates on our physical and emotional wellbeing.
Students also participated in creating healthy whole food meal plans for themselves, that they could easily follow. To further assist and encourage them to follow a healthier lifestyle, Eat Better South Africa gave each attendee a Banting on a Budget Guidebook with affordable low carbohydrate meal plans, a Banting Pocket Guide, The Fat Revolution Cookbook and Heba Pap; a healthy alternative to refined maize meal commonly consumed in SA.
All in all, the event was a resounding success and we look forward to future collaborations with Thatha Ithuba Society to help shape our future leaders.
