After Nepal was hit by the massive earthquake in 25th April, ICA Nepal responded immediately with survival support of water, food and shelter.  Following the subsequent earthquakes it was apparent that psycho-emotional trauma was severe and needed addressed.  The Social Artistry trainers began this support by conducting series of Social Artistry and leadership trainings for psycho-emotional support to the victims. Various communities, organizations and school/college were provided the training of psycho-emotional trauma relief training where the tools of Social Artistry were used. Following are some examples of this continuing work.

Psycho-emotional trauma relief training was provided using Social Artistry tools at South Point boarding high school on 29th May, 2015. The teachers and stakeholders of school were the participants in the training. Considering the fact that students would require extra care and proper handling during tremors, ICA Nepal realized teachers should be trained first and their trauma should be healed before children. Therefore, training was provided in the school premises. There were 30 participants and trainers Amba Datta Bhatta and Atma Ram Timsina provided the training. Training was efficient and helpful for teachers.

Tri-Ratna School, Bungamati Psycho-social trauma relief training from Social Artistry perspective was provided to teachers of Tri- Ratna School, Bungamati on June 28th, 2015.

Olympia School Similarly, the training for teachers and staffs of Olympia school was also provided with psycho social trauma relief training with the use of social artistry tools. There were around 30 participants.

With the similar purpose of trauma relief and psycho-emotional support, Social Artistry leadership training was provided to members and stakeholders of the Institute of Banking and Management Studies (IBMS) on 1st June, 2015. The training was conducted at its premises at Chakupat, Lalitpur among 25 participants. The training was helpful to provide counseling and trauma handling ideas to the participants, and for them to share in their communities. Mr Amba Datta Bhatta and Mr Atma Ram Upadhyaya were the trainers.

ICA Nepal received great support from Jean Houston foundation during the time of earthquake where many of the places in Nepal had been devastated. It was essential to lend our supporting hand to the victims, and the Jean Houston Foundation played a great role by helping us out with donation of significant amounts and constant updates about Nepal on their sites. The amount was used for relief support as well being used for the rehabilitation process.

Meeting immediate survival needs is only the beginning.  We are now engaged in the process of training community and organization leaders in the psycho-emotional support needed for people to recover from the trauma of this tragedy and to engage in rebuilding their lives and communities.  We welcome and need your continued support.
