Nearly nine months after the earthquake and there is still work to be done.
Clara Luna is working diligently to continue with our earthquake relief projects in the affected areas of San Vicente, Tabuchilla, Bahia de Caraquez, Rio Muchacho, Tabuga, and Canoa. Our work is primarily directed at children, ensuring that their lives are less impacted by the destruction of the earthquake. After a natural disaster, the first instincts are projects focusing on food, medicine, and shelter. Now that all of those needs have been sufficiently taken care of, it is important to focus on the stability of the children in these areas and providing them with spaces to be children.
After conducting months of children activities in the shleters and communities that have been affected by the earthquake, we have found a way to continue to improve the lives of children and lessen their trauma in these areas while we are not there with mobile libraries and kid centers. Six community leaders have been identified that will be responsible for these mobile libraries. They will have designated areas and times during the week where they will bring childrens books and activities, provided by Clara Luna.
To begin these mobile centers, Clara Luna has begun collecting the materials that will make up our mobile libraries (books, boxes, mats to sit on, and art supplies). We are currently planning a two-day training for February 17 and 18th where the six community leaders will visit Puerto Lopez to learn more about working with children, the effects of trauma on children, and how to run a mobile library. There they will be provided with the materials to begin their mobile libraries to take back to their communities.
We are inspired by your donations and this project could not be possible without your generous support.
Looking forward to sharing with you the impact these childrens centers and mobile libraries have on their communities.
