By Caroline Martins and Caroline Brunetto | Project Leader

The Children Cancer Institute in RS has developed 14 areas for volunteers to act. During the first semester of 2014, more than 300 volunteers of the institution helped and participated in several actions as in recreation with patients, family care and other different areas of activities as the many events of ICI/ RS. In the first half of 2014 there were a total of 648 children and adolescents assisted by the institution.

Our effortfor the 2nd half of 2014 is to face one of the major events that ICI participates which is MAC DIA FELIZ, this event will take place in August the 30th. During this day all the sales of the BIG MAC Hamburgers will revert to the institution helping to support the children and adolescets with cancer in Brazil. This year all the money raised will be for the construction of our new integrated Support Center, which aims to increase and quality care for patients and their families.

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Research aims to understand the tumor biology and to identify new strategies for the treatment of childhood cancers. Furthermore, it operates in the training of human capabilities at high level (masters and doctorate) specialize in pediatric oncology besides stimulating publication in international journals.
