A special milestone
At the age of three, Y. developed an alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare, malignant tumor in her upper leg. Y. is now nine years old and her mother send us this beautiful message: “Yesterday we had her five-year check-up at the Princess Máxima Center. A mega milestone! Celebrating big is not possible due to corona, so the celebration was only small. But we are so grateful and happy! I am so proud of this lady!”
A day to remember
On August 30, eleven families had a fantastic day during the American Sunday at Circuit Park Zandvoort. The day, which we were able to organize in collaboration with the Noah4All foundation, started with a spectacular ride where the children were allowed to ride in cool trucks from Schiphol to Zandvoort. Of course, a lap on the circuit could not be missed. “What a great day it was!” H. informed us. “I had goosebumps and there is still a lot to talk about. Thank you for your great effort, certainly a day to remember!”
Heartwarming
T., 13, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2018. Last July he finished the treatment after two years. During the party he gave to celebrate the last treatment, he didn't ask for presents for himself, but raised money. T. recently came to personally hand over the nice amount of 200 euros to our colleague Tessa at our desk in the Princess Máxima Center. So sweet and heartwarming; thank you very much T!
'Motordaddy'
“My name is V., but to some people I'm better known as Motordaddy. I got this nickname while guiding the Chain of Balloons (Ketting van Balonnen), the bike ride of hope that the Childhood Cancer Organization organizes once every five years. Through this bike ride I came into contact with the Organization and the children. Each and every one of them inspired me to commit myself to the Chain of Balloons and the Kanjerketting. N. has been a very special inspiration. At the 2007 edition it was almost impossible for him to cycle and five years later it was impossible to keep up. During the bike rides I am a motorcycle supervisor, associated with the Motor Guidance Team from Zoetermeer, and responsible for the traffic technical part of the trips. That means devising routes, making correct time schedules and guiding the tour on the motorbike. I accompanied the 2007 (partial), 2012 and 2018 edition with great pride and with very nice memories. Unfortunately at the beginning of this year I was diagnosed with cancer and that made me decide not to ask for gifts for my birthday, but donations. I have a very warm heart for the Childhood Cancer Organization and the Kanjerketting.”
A beautiful card made by J.
Since July, J. has finished his treatment in 'his hospital', the Princess Máxima Center. Together with his sister and mother, he designed cards with the Máxima and the Kanjerketting. And we can give these beautiful cards away to all children; to keep and color for yourself or to send to family or friends. The tickets are available at the desk in the central hall of the Máxima. Thank you J. for this special and heartwarming gift for all children!
