“The places where I'm darkest and weakest are the greatest opportunities to be transformed and healed”.
On September 3, the RIGHT NOW project begins at Maria Eugenia Puig Lince School in Drug Prevention.
Previously we trained volunteers in 2 areas:
During this period we have been working this topic with students, school teachers and their parents. The project provides specialized speeches about this topic, with the support of Dra. Nelly Baquerizo, clinical psychologist. This topic was discussed from the different roles that each individual has in society.
We work with 230 children and adolescents, from fifth grade onwards.
We also have a great challenge to work with the grade named FLEXIBLE EDUCATION, which is a grade of 80 people, including men and women who could not finish high school at the age they belonged and the government gives them the opportunity to do it now, many of them take classes with their babies.
On September 24, we make the first HANDICRAFT WORKSHOP, the children and adolescents were motivated to do their own manila folder using foamy material to decorate it. The folder will be use by them to file their annual works.
Why it is important to create crafts?
The craft is an alternative activity in drug prevention. An artistic expression is captivating and beneficial. Do something different and creative, it is about to take a risk that demands often do it with diligence, feeling confident of themselves.
The exercise of these capabilities combined with other features, young people acquire greater resilience and ability to withstand difficulties that can lead them to drug use.
The second training workshop for our volunteer team was about the importance of TEAMWORK in order to achieve our goals, this workshop was conducted by Dr Dina Cesari, a Clinical Psychologist from Bolivia. Teamwork could be considered as the oil that makes the team work. It can enable smoother movement towards specific goals and can help teams to overcome obstacles.
A very special student…
Brigitte, a young single mother, has taught us during this period of time that you can SHINE LIKE A DIAMOND. She is 19 years old and she carries in her arms her baby boy 10 months old, she does not hesitate to attend classes on drug prevention. She belongs to FLEXIBLE EDUCATION grade and often she is carrying her baby in the stroller.
With a smiling, fresh face that reflects his own youth, she wish to graduate from school and to prevent his son from what drugs can lead.
The environment in which these students live in Bastion Popular, which is where the school is located, is full of micro drug dealers who are out of schools expect students out to approach them.
At her young age she acknowledges that not all decisions have been wise and now she is responsible for a new life, which is why we see in it the process of a diamond. Most natural diamonds are formed under extreme pressure and temperature existing at depths of 140 km to 190 km in the Earth's mantle.
She is being challenged and trained to be a channel of blessing not only for her child but for many teenagers’ mothers to move forward because drugs can destroy lives; it is RIGHT NOW tomorrow may be too late.
We thank you for your invaluable contribution to the community. We are seeing how many lives are being transformed, leaving a legacy to future generations. We invite you to be part of the next Year-End Campaign. The campaign begins on December 1st at 12:01am EST. Thanks for making these diamonds shine!!
