The past months have been an exciting time for Green Phenix as we further refined our mission and core pillars. Green Phenix promotes well-being in the Caribbean part of the Dutch Kingdom by tackling plastic pollution through three core pillars: community building, facilitation, and awareness.
This progress report highlights recent milestones and the collective efforts that drive our mission forward.
Guus, a former intern at Green Phenix, reflected on his experience: “I’ve seen firsthand how plastic waste, often viewed as a problem, can become a resource. The strength of Green Phenix lies not just in its technical innovation but in the way it engages the community to rethink waste as a resource.”
A Focus on Pollution Reduction
At the heart of Green Phenix is our mission to eliminate plastic pollution from our beautiful island. We organize clean-up events, collect post-consumer plastics, and transform discarded materials into high-quality, reusable products. While these initiatives are impactful and inspiring, our research shows that the most significant long-term change requires systemic solutions.
One such solution is the implementation of fair Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policies. EPR ensures that producers are held accountable for the entire lifecycle of their products, including sustainable waste management. To advocate for this, we’ve launched a petition to bring EPR policy to the political agenda. By demonstrating widespread public support, we increase the likelihood of meaningful action.
We invite everyone to join this effort by signing the petition:

Empowering the Community
Green Phenix’s mission extends beyond reducing plastic pollution—it’s about unlocking human potential and fostering collaboration. In October and November, the entire Green Phenix team participated in a personal development course facilitated by Andy Kirchner, also known as "The Recycled Pirate."
Andy, an expert in personal development, used the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a guiding compass to help participants rethink their goals, habits, values, and future aspirations. The sessions created a safe space for deep reflection and meaningful conversations on topics often overlooked, such as spirituality and finances.
Andy shared his perspective on LinkedIn: “This past Wednesday and Friday, I went into the ‘classroom’ to give a Personal Development workshop, and I got a workshop in kindness and determination in return. The Green Phenix team is not only creating awareness about recycling, they are actively recycling lives!”
Guus observed the powerful impact of these workshops: “It was great to see participants ‘wake up’ from their daily grind and rethink their lives. For example, one employee reinvigorated her dream of pursuing higher education—a goal she had previously set aside. The sessions allowed the team to regain their ambition and focus on their personal and professional growth.”
These workshops underscored how Green Phenix not only addresses environmental challenges but also uplifts individuals, empowering them to lead more fulfilling lives.
A Shared Mission
Green Phenix’s success is built on collective effort. Whether through volunteering, donating, or making sustainable choices, every action contributes to our shared goal. Together, we’re proving that waste can be turned into value and that sustainability is within reach for everyone.
As Guus reflected on his time with Green Phenix, he highlighted an essential truth: “Systemic change takes time, but it starts with small, consistent actions that inspire others to join in.”
Looking Ahead
Green Phenix remains committed to its vision of a sustainable future. With your support, we will continue to scale our recycling efforts, expand our educational programs, and advocate for systemic changes like EPR policies.
Thank you to everyone who believes in and supports Green Phenix. Together, we’re paving the way for a future where waste is a resource, and sustainability is a shared reality.
