Torey, a camper at our autism session interviews her mom, Susie, about camp.
Torey: What was I like before I went to Dragonfly?
Susie: Well, before you went to the dragonfly,
Torey: Oh goodness...
Susie: (smiling) You weren't as vocal or verbal as you are now. When you went to dragonfly it just kind of took you out of this shell that you were in. You were very quiet, you kept to yourself, you didn't like people, you shut down…
Torey: {Laughs}
Susie: I know! Could you imagine?
Torey: Oh, I didn't like people?
Susie: You shut down, you didn't really like to talk to a lot of people but after that first summer of dragonfly -- you just opened up. You were a whole new girl. You weren't shy anymore you were outgoing, you were proud of yourself. You actually went on stage, which is something you never ever ever did before.
Torey: I remember that moment it was so hard for me...to do that
Susie: Dragonfly helped you do that.
Torey: And now I love performing. So you know?
Susie: (Smiling) It's all Dragonfly’s fault that you’re the diva that you are today.
Torey: (diva voice) I am NOT a diva, that is RUDE!

It's humbling to know that Dragonfly Forest is such a powerful force for good in the lives of so many kids. We continue with our pro-diversity, pro-empowerment, and pro-inclusion work knowing that it makes a big difference to kids like Torey and her mom Susie.
