His first experience away from home

By Sylvia van Meerten | Executive Director

Sending a child with a diagnosis away from home can be nerve-wracking for any parent. Liz, whose son came to camp for the first time during the summer of  2015, said of the experience:

“My son, Colin, attended Dragonfly Forest’s camp last summer. It was his first time away from home by himself, which he and I were both nervous about. Leading up to the camp, he had so many questions and kept looking at camp materials, asking about the activities and schedules. When we got to the camp, we were greeted by the extremely enthusiastic staff. The staff were so very special — excited, warm and welcoming, and fun. They quickly made Colin feel comfortable by taking time to answer his questions, ask him questions, show him around the camp and living area space, and introduce him to others. When he came home, he was so happy — he had an absolutely wonderful time! He learned skills, formed relationships, and had fun — and grew as a person over the course of the week. He came home more mature, able to help out at home, and continued to do things he learned at camp over the course of the year. He has talked about camp all year and is eager to go back. Thank you, Dragonfly Forest, for giving him such a positive and memorable experience!”

Dear supporters:  YOU made this possible for Colin and Liz.  A positive first experience away from home can shape a person's whole life for the better. Your generosity helped Colin - and many other kids like him - find happiness and confidence they can keep for their whole lives.  THANK YOU.
