This is the story of the village Eidan Khan Jarwar located in Taluka Dighri district Mirpurkhas in Sindh province of Pakistan. The village is of daily wage workers, they use to work in bricks making. Almost all men but in some cases, women use to work in bricks making as those households are being headed by women either as a widow woman or separated etc. Therefore, fetching water for home was lying on the shoulders of women or children, they use to travel 1 kilometer to 2 kilometers from nearby water courses to bring water. The community was not in a position to purchase handpumps as well as to bear installation charges. A village young boy come to know that ARTS Foundation is installing handpumps free of cost in needy and remote villages. So, the young man reached to ARTS Foundation and submitted its application for the installation of handpumps in the village. In response, ARTS Foundation’s team visited village Eidan Khan Jarwar and observed the situation as well as the feasible sites for the installation of handpumps. In the first week of March 2022, ARTS Foundation installed 2 handpumps in the village at two different locations to make easy access to water for women in particular.
A total of 701 humans will get benefit from the installation of two handpumps. The benefits are numerous including increased leisure time for women and girls, improved health due to higher cleanliness and food hygiene along financial benefits due to easily available water in the village, some men or women can carry on their daily wage labor or extra hours at working site.
In the village, there are many under-privileged people belonging to religious minority also. According to Krishna, due to lack of clean water, we were forced to drink contaminated water from a small toba (pond) where rain water was collected and it was the only existing water source near to our minority households.
The village community is very thankful to the ARTS Foundation and GlobalGiving for this noble act. We are thankful to the Philanthropist’s for their donation for handpumps.
