Acute Water Shortage in Mirpurkhas, Pakistan
This is immense pleasure for ARTS Foundation Pakistan to share with you the project’s report to keep updated to you about the acute water shortage in Mirpurkhas district of Sindh province of Pakistan.
An acute shortage of water has been persisting in the city for the last two months due to suspension of water supply. As a result, people are compelled to buy drinking water from the market and bring water for domestic use from far flung areas. Because of this shortage, people are forced to use/drink unsafe drinking water which is creating water borne diseases.
Over 150,000 diarrhea cases reported by Dawn newspaper in Sindh province last year. Especially children are at risk of water-borne diseases in Mirpurkhas division.
An immediate solution to address acute water shortage in Mirpurkhas could be installation of hand pumps to fetch fresh water from underground. A water hand pump is a water well pump which pumps water out of potable - drinking water wells to a maximum depth of about 80 meters.
ARTS Foundation preferred method of implementing in the field is to build hand pumps which are cost effective and requires less technical support and local community people can operate it easily to fetch the water from underground.
This is the very right time for you to support the community of Mirpurkhas so that they can have fresh and safe drinking water. We now request all of you to please come forward and join the hands of ARTS Foundation to alleviate the basic shortage of water at Mirpurkhas, Sindh Pakistan.
