Animal Aid Abroad (AAA) assists working animals in need globally. Wherever possible, we rescue working animals who are enduring inhumane situations, including inadequate water & food, untreated injuries, abuse or abandonment. Following rescue, these animals are taken to our partner sanctuaries in India, Nepal, Tanzania, Zambia, Afghanistan or South Africa, where they will live in safety and care permanently. All rescued animals are provided with rest, shelter, veterinary care & nourishing food.
Working animals are often owned by people who are too impoverished to provide them with adequate care, or who lack basic knowledge of animal welfare. Sadly, this means many animals frequently endure overwork, injuries or wounds from unsuitable equipment, emaciation and dehydration, untreated illnesses and total exhaustion. Some working animals also face more severe neglect, cruelty & beatings. When an animal becomes too ill or worn out to work, they may simply be dumped by the side of a road.
This AAA project has been set up to allow us to continue rescuing working animals in dire circumstances, such as those who have been seriously injured or abandoned. It will also help us care for these animals long-term by providing nutritious food and supplements, caretakers, veterinary checkups, medicines, grooming, farriers, warm blankets and comfortable stables. Our project will ensure any rescued animals can live out the remainder of their lives in safe, peaceful sanctuaries.
Rescuing working animals not only improves the lives of individual animals, it also creates changes in attitudes towards donkeys, horses, mules, camels and bullocks. Our partner sanctuaries often act as educational facilities, allowing people to see these animals as unique individuals rather than simply as unfeeling "machines". Such long-term shifts in attitudes encourage greater compassion towards working animals, thereby improving their lives and welfare overall and creating cultural change.
