Sikshana Foundation conducted the Endline Assessment for children in the classes IV to VII during the month of February 2015 in the Domlur city schools. The feedback from the assessment was positive with enhancement in learning levels for language reading and arithmetic skills.
Sikshana measures its program on the lines of the national assessment system ASER ( Annual Status Education Report) which reflects the state of learning among children at the all India level. The ASER based assessment tests the basic language (reading simple sentences in the regional language) and mathematics skills (simple division skills) among children studying in Class IV to Class VII.
In schools adopted by Sikshana, the children are doing well in language and mathematics skills. Sikshana's intervention shows that the children are way ahead of ASER level skills. The highlight of the assessment was that in Government Higher Primary School (GHPS) at Appareddypalya, students of standard 6 achieved 100% in Kannada language reading skills and 66.67% in Mathematics. Similarly in GHPS Jogupalya students of standard 6 achieved 100% in Kannada language reading skills and 57.14% in Mathematics. On an average, the schools achieved 81.81% in language reading skills and 42% in Mathematics.
Sikshana's programs such as providing writing sheets, mentoring the children and motivating the below-average students and facilitating teachers training has helped in the overall development in the schools.
The schools were closed for summer holidays for a couple of months and during this period the field mentor engaged the students with reading and writing assignments of story books. The school reopened in the first week of June 2015 and children have rejoined the school with enthusiasm. Sikshana has begun the process of tracking children’s basic profile,
