Children of Jogupalya Urdu and Tamil Government Higher Primary Schools and Appareddypalya Government Higher Primary School, participated in a drawing competition held recently in the Jogupalya School campus. 25 Dell volunteers along with Siskhana Mentors and school teachers organised this competition. The children participated with great enthusiasm. These schools have been actively taking part in art and craft activities and have showcased tremendous talent. By encouraging their talent we have been able to help them focus on their academics too.
A trip was organized for the children of these schools in the month of December 2012. The children were divided into groups and were sent on a visit to Tumkur and Mysore. Children, who were lagging behind in academics, were chosen and sent on this trip. This was done to encourage them to do well in their studies. The trip gave the children an opportunity to see new places. This was projected as one of the incentives for the children to perform well in their academics. It was a big hit with them as they were motivated to perform well in order to go on such excursion trips.
The children of Domlur schools are doing well academically too. Writing sheets provided by Sikshana has improved the writing speed and skills greatly among the students of these schools. A file of these writing sheets is being maintained for each student and one can see gradual improvement in the handwriting. Stars which are given as incentives to perform well in academics have worked well with the students of these schools. Children in order to gain these stars have been regularly attending the school. This has led to decrease in absenteeism and improvement in grades.
