Project Progress Report
Project Title: Donate to 4000 HIV+ Victims of Aid Freeze
Organization: Sustainable World Zimbabwe Trust
Location: Mashonaland East Province, Zimbabwe
GlobalGiving Project ID: #68685
Reporting Period: Recent Quarter Update
Overview
We remain deeply committed to ensuring uninterrupted access to Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) for 4,000 children under the age of five living with HIV in Mashonaland East. Since our last update, the project has not received new donations. However, the urgency of the situation on the ground continues to grow.
The freeze and reduction of U.S. aid support under President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has significantly disrupted HIV service delivery systems, affecting drug supply chains, diagnostic services, and community outreach programs. Children under five remain among the most vulnerable, with pediatric ART coverage still below adult coverage levels in the province.
Current Situation on the Ground
-
Health facilities are experiencing periodic shortages of pediatric ART formulations.
-
Viral load testing for children has been limited due to reduced diagnostic resources.
-
Community health workers have reduced outreach capacity in remote areas.
-
Caregivers are facing financial strain, making transport to health centers difficult.
Without consistent funding, thousands of children risk treatment interruption, which can lead to drug resistance, rapid disease progression, and preventable mortality.
Progress Despite Funding Gaps
Although funding has been limited, Sustainable World Zimbabwe Trust has:
-
Continued engagement with local health facilities to assess pediatric ART needs.
-
Strengthened coordination discussions for mobile clinic deployment once funding is secured.
-
Maintained communication with community health workers to track the most urgent cases.
-
Advocated for interim support partnerships while mobilizing additional donor support.
The project infrastructure and partnerships are ready for implementation — what remains is the financial capacity to operationalize mobile outreach and secure consistent ART supplies.
Funding Status
We are grateful for the generosity of our initial supporters. However, additional funding is urgently required to activate mobile clinics, procure pediatric ART drugs, and ensure viral load testing services reach remote communities.
Why Immediate Support Matters
Every $10 can provide ART drugs for five children for one month.
Every $20 can support a child’s treatment for an entire year.
Consistent treatment means:
-
Reduced HIV-related mortality
-
Improved growth and development outcomes
-
Prevention of mother-to-child transmission in the future
-
Stronger, healthier communities
Appeal to Donors and Partners
We humbly appeal to individuals, institutions, and monthly donors to support this life-saving initiative. Even small recurring donations can make a sustainable difference in ensuring uninterrupted treatment for vulnerable children.
Your contribution does not just fund medication — it restores hope, strengthens health systems, and protects the next generation.
We thank our current donors for their trust and invite others to stand with us during this critical time.
Together, we can ensure no child is left behind.
