Shoes That Grow
The Global Uplift Project
Over 1.5 billion people suffer from soil transmitted diseases worldwide, mainly children. Without shoes, they get parasites, worms, and other diseases. These can be disfiguring, even debilitating. Since children's feet grow so fast, they quickly outgrow donated shoes, leaving them once again exposed.
The Shoe That Grows changes that. It is made of heavy duty recycled rubber and reinforced mesh nylon with Velcro straps. It expands through five sizes, so lasts for years. It costs just $12 per pair. One of the pairs helped a seven-year-old child, Muthoga Kirathi, go to school for the first time (because he had such a long walk that he could not make in bare feet).
On Nov 13th, 2025, The Global Uplift Project (TGUP) donated 100 of the shoes to children at the Nambere Primary School in Kenya. This public school in a remote region of Kenya has 563 students. This brings to 965 the number of shoes TGUP has donated to Kenyan children. Many thousands more are in need.
