Children that were affected by the earthquake in Cebu are in need of support for their continuing education. Months since the earthquake, they still feel the impact of the tragedy. Save the Children is supporting children's learning continuity by providing them with back-to-school kits to inspire them to learn and alleviate the burden from their parents of having to buy these learning materials in the midst of financial struggles and recovery from the disaster.
Children in Cebu, especially those affected by poverty and emergencies such as typhoons and floods, often lack access to essential school supplies. In the aftermath of crises, families prioritize basic survival needs, making it difficult for children to return to school prepared. This shortage of learning materials disrupts education, affects well-being, and increases the risk of absenteeism and learning loss among vulnerable children.
The project addresses barriers to education caused by poverty and emergencies by providing children with essential school supplies needed to attend and participate in class. By equipping children with what they need to start the school year prepared and confident, and by prepositioning kits for crisis response, the project supports learning continuity, speeds up recovery after emergencies, and strengthens community resilience through coordinated volunteer and partner engagement.
In the long term, the project strengthens children's access to education by reducing barriers to school attendance and improving preparedness, especially in emergency contexts. By equipping children with what they need to start the school year prepared and confident, the initiative supports learning continuity, builds resilience among families and communities, and fosters a culture of shared responsibility through sustained corporate and community engagement.
