As Global Medic Force continues to expand its work throughout Vietnam, the organization was recently approached to lend the expertise and its volunteer medical experts to the set up of a new non profit cancer hospital in Vietnam.
According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health and the WHO, Vietnam sees approximately 200,000 new cancer cases and 100,000 cancer deaths each year. Cancer is the second leading cause of death and a burning issue for the developing nation with a population of nearly 90 million people. Yet the facilities that provide adequate cancer care are highly limited and, with less than 2,500 cancer patient beds, only accommodate 20% -30% of total demand.
