A few weeks ago I was privileged to travel to Prague, in the Czech Republic, to participate in the presentation of the ICPCN 'Training of Trainers' week-long course to a group of 10 participants, mostly medical professionals.
ICPCN had provided training in the basic principles of children's palliative care to these same people earlier in the year and were now sharing with them the tools to take this knowledge and start training others withn their beautiful country. They had formed the Working Group on Children's Palliative Care in the Czech Republic and had been putting their knowledge and skills to use in their various institutions. (The pink pigs in the photo represent the mascot of this working group!)
In the many years I've been involved in teaching and in training, I doubt I have ever witnessed a more passionate and determined group of people to not only provide palliative care to children in the Czech Republic, but to ensure the development of services throughout their country, with the full support of the Czech Society for Palliative Medicine.
The positive energy in the room and with which they tackled every discussion, task and assignment was tangible. I am convinced that the development of children's palliative care is in excellent hands and look forward to seeing the fruits of our training increase in the years to come.
The Czech Republic is just one of the countries that ICPCN has worked in this past year, providing training, presenting on children's pallaitive care and giving strategic support for service development. We have also been active in Lesotho, Malaysia, Indonesia, Rwanda, Singapore, South Africa, Swaziland, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and Uganda, amongst others.
In addition, our free online courses on children's palliative care provide a most valuable resource allowing those unable to participate in our face-to-face training courses the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills in children's palliative care. With 7 courses presently available in 7 languages, we will soon launch courses in Hindi, Vietnamese and Czech, all endorsed by the University of South Wales. These can be found at www.elearnicpcn.org
We are enormously grateful to you for donating to this important work because we know it is making a difference in the lives of thousands of children, touched by the people we train.
If you are willing to do Just One Thing for Children's Palliative Care as the new year approaches, will you consider another donation or even a monthly donation of as little as $5 to the ICPCN to support us in our mission to ensure all children who need pallaitive care, receive it?
