The "Do Good - Recycle" project is intended to educate children in preschool, primary and secondary schools throughout Montenegro with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of environmental protection. As Montenegro, as an ecological country, faces numerous problems related to environmental protection, especially plastics, we want to use education to influence the change in environmental awareness and habits, especially among young people.
Montenegro is the first ecological country in the world, but it faces a major problem of waste management. According to the Ministry, there are about 400 illegal landfills in Montenegro. One of the solutions is recycling, but the awareness of citizens is not at an enviable level. Municipal waste per capita in 2023 is 1.6 kg, while in 2022 it is 1.5, in 2021-1.4 kg. What is worrying is that the percentage of recycled municipal waste in 2023 is at the level of 2022 and is only 0.3%.
Education is key and necessary, so it needs to be continuously implemented. Previous experience has shown us that the project "Do good - recycle!" delivers results and enables: Raising the awareness of children and students about the importance of preserving and protecting the environment and the circular economy through education; Raising awareness of the importance of preserving and protecting the environment at the level of educational institutions throughout the country...
The project will have an impact on changing the consciousness of young people who are the future carriers of society, which is confirmed by the fact that in the schools where the project was implemented, about 2 tons of plastic were collected and that the acquired habits were passed on to new generations. Schools continue to collect plastic and educate. The goal is to increase the rate of recycled municipal waste in Montenegro, and reduce plastic pollution of the sea, national parks, and rivers.
