Disaster resilient shelter in Bangladesh project provides life-saving immediate emergency shelter, and disaster resilient housing to families who have lost everything by disasters. Bangladesh is one of the world's most disaster-prone countries, with nearly all its land and population exposed to recurring disasters. The project will help vulnerable families rebuild safer homes, and strengthen their resilience against future disasters.
Disasters strike Bangladesh's poorest hardest-devastating farming and fishing families, women, children, and the aged. Living on fragile incomes with little healthcare, families face damage every year from extreme event occurrences. Nearly 70% live in fragile mud and bamboo huts that easily collapse, leaving many to rebuild their homes up to six times in lifetime. Compounded by frequent disaster impacts and ongoing socio-economic vulnerability, families are locked in a vicious cycle of poverty.
Disaster resilient shelter project delivers life-saving aid to the most vulnerable by providing emergency shelter and resilient housing. Each resilient house will incorporate sanitation, solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and livestock shelters-ensuring safety, continuity of livelihoods, and community well-being. This fund supports to restore lost livelihoods and rebuilds stronger, disaster-resilient communities so marginalized families can withstand future disasters and get out of poverty.
This fund delivers emergency shelter and disaster resilient housing to 245 disaster-stricken individuals in marginalized communities. Guided by a commitment to reach the most remote and severely affected areas, the project builds disaster-resilient homes with solar power, hygienic sanitation, and livestock shelters. Combined with sustainable livelihood support, it breaks the intergenerational cycle of poverty.
