It has been a week since the devastating earthquake shook Nepal. The flow of information has been slow, especially from remote villages that have been without electricity for a while. Where normalcy is slowly coming back to Kathmandu, the people in villages of Gorkha, the epicenter of earthquake, are just beginning to receive much needed emergency supplies and relief aid. As of this morning, electricity has been restored in different areas of Taklung, a village in Gorkha. Taklung is a very special place to us. It is where our work started 15 years ago and is home to 10 of 35 women’s groups in Gorkha.
Several staff and Board members of ADWAN, our sister organization in Nepal, with deep roots in Taklung, have been leading emergency relief efforts. The team arranged delivery of much needed supplies, 45 bags of rice, and 250 tents to families in various communities. ADWAN volunteers have organized an emergency coordination committee to direct the flow of supplies to those with the most need, not with the most status!
We are staying in touch with our team via phone, email and social media, and will share more progress with you as we receive them in the coming days.
Thank you for your support and interest in this project.
