Summary

We use the unique power of physical activity and sport to enhance the lives of disabled people and help them feel connected with their local communities. Our Community Clubs project provide inclusive, weekly sport and physical activity for people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism, creating safe, structured pathways into social connection, skills and independence. Launched in 2013, our award-winning programme reaches over 250 disabled people monthly.

Challenge

Disabled people are twice as likely to be inactive as non-disabled people, yet the majority want to be more active. Barriers include inaccessible facilities, lack of adapted sport, financial hardship, and social isolation. The pandemic and cost-of-living crisis have further widened these inequalities, with over 60% of disabled people reporting increased isolation and reduced activity.

Solution

These sessions help participants stay active, try new sports, volunteer, and make lasting social connections. Clubs also offer a welcoming space for parents and carers to connect, share experiences, and support one another.

Long-Term Impact

Each year, we reach over 5,000 disabled people, families, and carers. 97% of members feel more confident after joining our clubs. 93% report feeling happier and better connected to their community. 70% have doubled their weekly activity levels, improving their health. 59% of our workforce are disabled people, compared to 6% nationally. 175 people completed our training courses last year.
