Thousands of Syrian refugees have traveled to Greece fleeing a civil war that has raged since 2011 and displaced millions. Through a new agreement, the EU has closed the borders from Greece into the rest of Europe in hopes of better managing the crisis. The local Greek government is stretched thin, so it is imperative that volunteer organizations like Do Your Part receive funding to help support the refugees and ease the burden on the Greek people while refugee asylum applications are processed.
The Civil War in Syria has created one of the biggest refugee crises the world has seen since WWII. With the new EU agreement in place, 50,000+ refugees are being housed in small camps awaiting processing of their asylum applications. This process can take anywhere from 6-36 months. The Greek people have opened their hearts and country but the Greek government cannot financially support all these refugees. Local groups and volunteers from all over the world are working around the clock to help.
As time passes in these long term camps, the refugees will need something to do to occupy their time and energy. Do Your Part manages the camp and is tasked with building the infrastructure that will provide resources for the residents to work and live while awaiting their asylum processes. It will instill a sense of pride in their 'home' and themselves. We will source the supplies and equipment directly from our suppliers in Greece, thus helping the Greek economy as well
Through donations to this project, support will continue through our volunteers and partners in assisting refugees living in the camps on mainland Greece until the end of the refugee crisis. Monies will be spent in Greece as much as possible to ensure that the local economy is stimulated to support the recovery of Greece after the crisis ends.
