As a CBO, we must continuously assess the needs of our communities and find clever, sustainable ways to fulfil those needs, and we need to make sure we are not wasting resources. Since the last report submitted, we were able to evaluate this project and decided to make it 100% focused on Adolescent girls. We have realised that in as much as young men also need assistance with their hygiene; adolescent girls in the country are relatively negatively more impacted. We want to inform our kind donors that out of the growing need to create gender equity, we see the need to focus more on the girls for this project. Adolescent boys will remain beneficiaries in all our other programs as an organization.
With a third wave of Covid19 looming for us as a country and the vaccine roll out being behind schedule, the need for assistance has increased. Second batches of retrenchments were conducted in a lot of private companies, further cutting down income for many families. We have had to increase our list of beneficiaries as it became clear that the effects of these past couple of months had a ripple effect.
Due to recent political unrest in the country that saw majority local shops being burnt and vandalised, means that the disadvantaged now have to travel long distances to purchase toiletries from cities. Dignity Packs will be distributed amongst other aid interventions as food shortages have also drastically increased due to the unrest.
Fortunately our data collection for our programmes had already been conducted and we have 235 adolescent girls in all our programmes that need hygiene support. However due to the fact that schools are closed due to the political unrest, we will have to distribute packs together with food parcels. Our reoccurring donors’ generosity is going to go a long way in ensuring these young girls’ dignity is restored.
