Thank you to all of our sustaining donors & those who have just found our campaign — we are thrilled to have you all on board. Here’s a general overview of where we stand with Digitizing Cultural Heritage & Historic Sites in Venezuela.
Our work on the San Rafael de Mucuchíes Chapel, built by Juan Félix Sánchez from 1980 - 1984, is well underway. We will be sending photographers to the area to do reshoots on the chapel now that the rainy season is over, as well as having them capture the El Tisure Complex. Models will be put together sometime in the next coming months once we receive the images.
We have begun photogrammetry at the Palace of the Academies in Caracas, an essential building that headquarters 4 other National Academies within the country, are still underway. These academies all house significant documents, sculptures, paintings, and antique furniture. Attached are behind the scenes photos of our photographers in the museum. We are excited to solve these models & share them!
Our workshops in the El Calvario barrio were a huge success. The community members of the town chose which iconic cultural artifacts/structures/statues to capture, and we have created 3D models from their images. We also hosted a workshop called "El Calvario Puertas Abiertas" (Open doors to El Calvario) in which children were taught about the importance of cultural heritage in the community. Attached are some of the models we have made from El Calvario.
We have also successfully been churning out models from our work at the Quinta de Anauco Colonial Art Museum — attached are a few of those models.
Lastly, we’d like to announce a forthcoming update to our website. We have partnered with Libnova in our to create a DAM (digital asset management) platform for all Arc/k supporters & viewers to access our models, including our work with Venezuela. We have been working closely with Libnova to fine tune our archive database and make it available to academics, volunteers, and the general public alike, in order to interact with our ever growing collection of 3D models. It’s our hope that by making the data behind each solve as transparent as possible it will allow scholars to utilize this knowledge to the fullest to move preservation initiatives forward in the community. We should be releasing the site to the public within the coming months and will be sure to share it with you all.
Again, thank you so much to all our supporters & donors — we couldn’t do it without you!
